Halloween is the one day each year when you can pretend to be anyone or anything! Whether you like dressing up in costume, costume-watching, or sneaking a piece of candy out of the trick-or-treat bowl, the spookiest day of the year is just around the corner. Chicago is full of haunted fun for everyone this Halloween season. TAWANI Property Management found these fun ways to experience Halloween with children, adult friends or family and pets.

 

Family Fun Halloween Events

What: Brookfield Zoo Boo at the Zoo

When: October 7-22, Saturdays and Sundays, October 7-22, 2023, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Where: Brookfield Zoo, 8400 31st Street (1st Avenue and 31st Street)

Boo! At the Zoo spreads the Halloween festivities over all the weekends in October. Guests will be will have the opportunity to paint pumpkins, enjoy inflatables, and enjoy a virtual reality 4D theater show. Bring your finery to the zoo for creepy crawlers, seasonal activities and fun photo ops!

What: Chicago Botanic Garden Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns

When: October 11- 15 & 18 – 22, 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Where: Chicago Botanic Garde, 1000 Lake Cook Road Glencoe

More than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins light up the night at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s annual Night of 1,000 Jack-o-Lanterns. This event is a sight to see as artist-carved pumpkins light your way through the Garden after dark. Bring the family for a night of costumed entertainers, live carving demos and more.

What: Chicago Ghost Tours

When: September- October

Where: Locations vary

Gather your bravest friends and check out the haunted history of Chicago with drinks and food. Listen to tales of ghostly encounters at haunted locations that will leave you on the edge of your seat! This is not any ordinary tour, it’s a journey through the city’s eerie and mysterious history and celebrate Halloween in Chicago.

What: River North Bar Crawl

When: October 29, 7 p.m. until 12 a.m.

Where: North River Street Chicago. All of the venues are within walking distance.

Throw on your best costume and get out to the River North Halloween Crawl. River North is home to the trendiest bars in Chicago, so use the night to explore all of them. There will be photo opportunities at each location.

Local Pet-Friendly Halloween Events

What: The 36th annual Streeterville Doggy and Kitty Halloween Costume Party and Parade

When: Saturday 10/28, 9-11 a.m.

Where: MCA Sculpture Garden, 220 East Chicago Avenue

The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s Sculpture Garden turns into a “catwalk” (or dogwalk) for pets to strut their stuff and show off their costume creativity. Prizes will be given the best dressed-up dogs. Kitties can participate virtually via Facebook. The event is free, but all participants are asked to bring a dog toy to donate. Leashes required.

What: Park & Field Logan Square Dog Halloween Party

When: Friday 10/27, 6:00 p.m.

Where: 3509 W Fullerton Ave.

Celebrate Halloween in Chicago with your pup and other dog parents with drink specials, giveaways, and dog-friendly menu items. Dressed-up doggies will be eligible to win prizes in the costume contest. Tickets are $10 and advanced purchases will ensure your spot.
