There’s so much to do in Chicago every season, but there’s nothing like shedding the winter coat and soaking up all the city has to offer in the springtime. Rogers Park’s proximity to the beach and diverse cultures make it an ideal place to plan some Spring activities. Here are some of our favorite ways to make the most of Spring:
Things to Do in Chicago in the Springtime
Go to the Beach:
Chicago’s Spring weather may not be warm enough for a swim, but you can still enjoy its outdoor space and shoreline activities at Loyola Beach. It’s open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and offers 40 acres of green space. Take a stroll, pack a picnic, or get competitive with multiple outdoor sport options of tennis, basketball and volleyball.

Pick up a Paddle:
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and Rogers Park has responded to the popularity of the sport with its pickleball facilities. You can play through the Chicago Park District at Rogers (Philips) Park. The pickleball lines are overlaid on tennis courts, so the net is a little higher than regulation, but you can play for free (and even switch to tennis on the same court!).

Go for an Art Walk:
Chicago’s museums are world-class. You can also enjoy amazing outdoor art throughout the city, and Rogers Park, in particular, is known for its murals and street art. Stroll along the official Mile of Murals, which features 12 large-scale works, while simultaneously enjoying the outdoor fresh air. You can access the Mile of Murals through two access points – starting at Jarvis Square and following the CTA path south along Glenview or starting behind the Howard L stop and continuing south along the Metra tracks.
Catch a Show:
After a winter watching streaming indoors, change things up and catch some live music and entertainment at one of Rogers Park’s performance venues. Le Piano offers a wide variety of musical styles, from Latin jazz to cabaret to lounge music vocalists, and features full dinner and bar service. The new Rhapsody Theater also offers an eclectic mix of talent, including popular magicians, traditional chamber music performances, and dance groups.
Get Out in Nature:
Nearby in Lincoln Park, the Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary provides an educational way to spend time outdoors. Its ten acres attract more than 150 species of birds each year. Visitors can stroll through the natural setting, feeling they’ve left the city behind, and observe the birds en route to Spring migration at a special bird viewing platform. It’s a great family-friendly activity on warm Spring days.

In addition to the suggestions listed here, we always encourage people to take some time to explore Rogers Park on their own, try out the diverse cuisine, support small businesses, and shop at its unique boutiques. These are just a few reasons Rogers Park is a terrific place to be in the Spring!
