Pet Protection Tips for Halloween:

Amid the Halloween festivities across Chicago, our pets can use some extra protection to keep them out of harm’s way. Keep these safety tips in mind on All Hallow’s Eve:

  • Travel: If you’re taking your pet out at night to show off their costume, make sure their leash and harness are secure, and you have a reflective collar. The additional activity on the street can spook a pet, and people in masks may be less mindful of where they are walking.
  • Treats: Chocolate, raisins, and other Halloween treats can be toxic for pets. Make sure any candy is securely stored. Dogs’ keen noses can track down goodies, so keep treats completely out of reach, not just hidden.
  • Tricks: Opening and closing the door frequently for trick-or-treaters gives your pet more opportunities to escape. Keep pets – especially nervous or shy ones – away from the door and in a safe, secure room.

We can’t wait to see this year’s pet photo submissions! Thanks for participating and have a happy and safe Halloween!
