A Seasonal Two-for-One: Things to Do in Rogers Park Chicago in Late Summer/Early Fall

Erika Davis

September’s calendar includes the end of summer and the start of autumn, providing Chicago residents with the best of both seasons in one month. Rogers Park and its nearby Chicago neighborhoods offer an array of opportunities to maximize the last of summer weather and welcome the fun of fall. Here are some local options for enjoying Chicago in September and early October:

Take a Beach Stroll

Rogers Park is home to more beaches than any other neighborhood in Chicago. Beaches may be officially closed as of Labor Day, but you can still soak up the sun in nearby parks and take waterfront strolls before the weather turns cold. With more than 40 acres, Loyola Park is a great option for quiet walks or recreational activities for people of all ages.

Ride a Bike

With no ice or snow on the ground, take advantage of the outdoors with a bike ride on Lakefront Trail and its 18-mile pathway. If you don’t have a bike of your own, you can rent one at numerous Divvy stations around Rogers Park, including Loyola University, the Rogers Park Metra Station, and at Morse Avenue and Glenwood Avenue.

Stock up on Seasonal Produce

Make the most of the summer harvest and get your first pick of Fall fare by frequenting the Glenwood Sunday Market before it closes in October. Partake in al fresco shopping in temperate weather while supporting local agriculture, farmers, and food artisans. You can also support the market and the community by becoming a volunteer.

Sundays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Glenwood Avenue through October 27th.

Hear Free Live Music

Enjoy the season’s last First Friday Music Series on October 4th. A variety of talented musicians play on local Sheridan Road business patios, including Cafe Nova, Loyola Plaza, Raising Cane’s, and Great Wall. Get there early to take advantage of the giveaways and refreshments available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Support Local Artisans
